Major Injury Collision in San Marcos
November 1, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that the San Marcos Sheriff's Station is investigating a collision that sent a teenager to the hospital with major injuries.
On Thursday, October 31, just after 6:30 a.m., the Sheriff's Communications Center received a call about a collision on S. Rancho Santa Fe Road, just south of San Marcos Boulevard. Additional callers told dispatchers that a teenager had been struck by a vehicle and was down in the roadway.
The San Marcos Fire Department arrived on the scene and immediately began rendering medical attention to the victim, a 16-year-old girl. She was taken to the hospital with major, potentially life-threatening injuries.
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with Sheriff's Traffic Investigators.
A preliminary investigation shows the driver was heading northbound on S. Rancho Santa Fe Rd., approaching the intersection of San Marcos Boulevard, when the pedestrian crossed the roadway and was struck by the vehicle. The road was closed for several hours while the investigation was being conducted.
Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a factor in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.
