House Fire in Vista

November 2, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that Sheriff's Deputies and a san diego county sheriff department logoGood Samaritan jumped into action to save a woman from a house fire in Vista.

On Friday, November 1, just after 1:30 a.m., deputies from the Vista Sheriff's Station responded to a fire at a home in the 200 block of W. Bobier Drive. When they arrived, deputies found the home engulfed in flames. At the same time, a Good Samaritan alerted deputies that someone was still inside the burning home.

Without hesitation, Deputy Robert Oliveri made his way through the front door and crawled through the smoke to find the person inside the home. Meantime, Deputy Craig Vanden Bossche and the Good Samaritan were able to communicate with a woman in the home through an open window. Deputy Vanden Bossche and the Good Samaritan then pulled the woman to safety through a window with the help of Deputy Oliveri.

The rescued woman was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

Deputy Oliveri was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation. Both deputies and the Good Samaritan are expected to be okay.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Office commends these heroes for their quick thinking and selflessness during this life-saving operation.

"Every day, the men and women of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office put their lives on the line for the communities they serve," said Lieutenant Matthew Carpenter of the Vista Sheriff's Station. "Last night's event is just another example of the outstanding bravery our deputies show in protecting lives. I am incredibly proud of each deputy who responded to the call. I also want to extend my deepest gratitude to the courageous community member who risked his safety to help a stranger. His bravery and quick response played an essential role in saving a life."

The Sheriff’s Office thanks all who were involved for their bravery and commitment to the safety and well-being of our community. This extraordinary teamwork underscores the power of community and public service.
