Assault with a Deadly Weapon Arrest
November 16, 2024 – Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 8:09 p.m., deputies from the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station responded to an assault with a deadly weapon in the area of Mountain Road and Horsetheif Canyon Road in the unincorporated area of Corona, known as Temescal Valley. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim, who was uninjured, next to his vehicle and evidence of a shooting. The victim stated two unknown Hispanic males approached him and started arguing with him, and during the argument, a fight ensued. The victim indicated once they separated, he went to his vehicle when one of the Hispanic males fired a handgun at him and fled the area. During the investigation, the suspect who fired the weapon was identified as Brian Julian Sanchez, a 19-year-old resident of Lake Elsinore.
On Wednesday, November 13, 2024, at 12:27 a.m., Sanchez’s vehicle was located in the area of Lake Street and Lakeshore Drive, Lake Elsinore. Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station deputies attempted a traffic stop, but Sanchez refused, and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit terminated at the intersection of Ralph Road and Broadway Avenue, where Sanchez was taken into custody without incident. During the pursuit, Sanchez threw several items of evidence out of the vehicle, including a firearm, which deputies located.
Sanchez was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, and possession of an unregistered firearm. Investigators are still working to identify and locate the second suspect from the fight. This is an ongoing investigation, and no additional details are available.
