Body Discovered in Aftermath of South Los Angeles Fire
November 23, 2024 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that on November 21, 2024, around 5:00 a.m., Los Angeles Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a tree on fire in the 500 block of East Vernon Avenue. Upon arrival, the firefighters extinguished the fire and began investigating the source. They discovered the body of an individual who had sustained extensive thermal injuries. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Los Angeles Police Department personnel responded and assisted the Los Angeles Fire Department with the investigation. The cause of the fire is currently undetermined. LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division, the LAFD Arson Unit, and the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner are conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances of the fire and the cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing.
