Serious Injury Collision in Encinitas
December 8, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Friday, December 6th, at
approximately 9:55 p.m. Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station responded to a report of a collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Santa Fe Drive and Lake Drive in the City of Encinitas.
Preliminary information indicates that a 24-year-old male driving a 2003 Toyota Tacoma was heading eastbound on Santa Fe Drive and proceeded through the intersection of Lake Drive. At the same time, a 16-year-old female driving a 2016 Nissan Frontier heading westbound on Santa Fe Drive turned south onto Lake Drive in front of the Tacoma. The 16-year-old driver of the Frontier made the turn on a "Left Turn Yield" circular green light when the two vehicles collided. The Tacoma overturned and the 24-year-old driver was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with life-threatening injuries. A 23-year-old passenger who was also in the Tacoma was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Frontier remained on scene and was uninjured following the collision.
The use of alcohol or drugs is not believed to be a factor in this ongoing investigation.
