Electric Motorcycle Traffic Collision with Injuries
January 1, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on December 30, 2024, at 6:59 p.m., deputies from the 
Southwest Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the area of La Serena Way and Camino Corto in the city of Temecula regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and electric motorcycles.
Accident Investigators from the Southwest Sheriff’s Station responded to the location and assumed the investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed four juveniles on two electric motorcycles were traveling eastbound on La Serena Way and collided with a sedan. Three of the juveniles were transported by ambulance to a local hospital for minor to moderate injuries. The cause of the collision is pending further investigation.
The identity of the parties involved will not be released pending further investigation.
The Southwest Sheriff’s Station wants to ensure parents know that an “e-bike” without pedals and more than a 750-watt motor is an electric motorcycle and cannot be legally operated by unlicensed youth on public thoroughfares. To operate an electric motorcycle safely and legally on the roadway, you need the following:
- A valid motorcycle license issued by the DMV. 36% of motorcycle fatalities involve an unlicensed rider.
- A DOT certified motorcycle helmet. 41% of motorcycle fatalities are not wearing a helmet.
- Valid registration on the motorcycle. The motorcycles involved in this collision lacked basic DOT-certified safety equipment needed for roadway use and could not be registered for roadway use.
- Minimum liability motorcycle insurance
