Bicyclist Dies in Traffic Collision
January 2, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at 10:11 a.m.,
deputies assigned to the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a major-injury traffic collision involving a vehicle and bicyclist at the intersection of Highway 111 and Frank Sinatra Drive, in the city of Rancho Mirage.
Upon arrival, deputies found the cyclist unresponsive with major injuries in the westbound lanes of Highway 111. Despite life-saving efforts, the cyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the white SUV involved in the crash remained at the location and cooperated with the investigation. Highway 111 and nearby surface streets were closed for several hours while the investigation was conducted.
The Palm Desert Station’s Traffic Reconstruction Team responded and took over the investigation. At this time, there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details are available.
