Fatal Traffic Collision in Lemon Grove
January 2, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that the Lemon Grove Sheriff's Substation is investigating
a traffic collision that killed two pedestrians.
It happened on Wednesday, January 1, just after 11:00 a.m., at Buena Vista Avenue and Broadway in Lemon Grove.
When deputies arrived, they found two vehicles had collided in the intersection. The force of the impact sent one of the cars into the path of two pedestrians who were crossing the street. Paramedics and deputies immediately began lifesaving efforts on the two pedestrians. Unfortunately, they were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The drivers of the two vehicles involved in the collision were taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the collision is under investigation. Deputies have collected video surveillance footage from near the crash site. The intersection of Buena Vista and Broadway was closed for several hours while the Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) Team conducted its investigation. The intersection was reopened around 8:00 p.m.
Due to the nature of the injuries sustained during the collision, a DUI evaluation could not be done prior to the drivers being taken to the hospital. A phlebotomist responded to the hospital, where both drivers voluntarily provided blood samples. Those samples will be tested for the presence of alcohol and drugs.
The identities of the pedestrians are currently being withheld until next of kin notifications can be made.
