Stolen Vehicle Arrest Leads to Illegal Firearms Operation
January 8, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Monday, January 6, 2025, at 3:55 p.m., deputies assigned to the Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to a report of a stolen recreational vehicle in the 74000 block of Leslie Avenue in the city of Palm Desert.
During the investigation, deputies located the stolen recreational vehicle and detained the suspect, who was identified as 37-year-old Shayne Hiemstra of Palm Desert. During the investigation, a search warrant was served at the location, which led to the discovery of illegal firearms, narcotics, and 3D printers. Deputies also located an unsecured loaded firearm in a bedroom belonging to a juvenile.
Hiemstra was arrested and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center for multiple charges, including possession of a stolen vehicle, weapon-related offenses, possession of illegal narcotics, and child endangerment.
