Deputy-Involved Shooting

January 10, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 5:56 riverside county sheriff logop.m., deputies assigned to the Southwest Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the 32200 block of Cask Lane in Temecula regarding a family dispute. The reporting party told Sheriff’s Dispatch an unwelcomed family member broke into his residence while his wife and son were inside. The suspect exited the residence but continued to behave erratically in the parking lot and was refusing to leave.

Before deputies’ arrival, Sheriff’s Dispatch received reports of the suspect breaking the windows of a vehicle and setting it on fire. When deputies arrived, they located the suspect sitting inside the burning vehicle and acting erratically. Deputies gave the suspect multiple commands to exit the vehicle, but he refused to comply and continued to behave erratically and aggressively toward deputies. The suspect produced a metal object and threw it at the deputies, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was struck by gunfire, and deputies rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived.  The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in stable condition. The suspect’s identity will not be released at this time. No deputies were injured during this incident. The names of the involved deputies will also not be released.

The involved deputies will be placed on paid administrative leave according to Department policy. The investigation is ongoing, and no additional details will be released at this time.

Investigators from the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office assigned to the Riverside Sheriff’s Force Investigations Detail will lead this investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Riverside County District Attorney Investigator Ivan Ostarcevic or Riverside Sheriff’s Master investigator David Sandoval at 951-955-2777.
