DUI Suspect Arrested for a Fatal Traffic Collision

January 13, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on January 12, 2025, at RCSO Simmons12:20 a.m., deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s Perris Station responded to the intersection of Placentia Avenue and the southbound I-215 freeway off-ramp, Perris, regarding a report of a traffic collision involving a Dodge truck and a Toyota sedan. Deputies arrived on the scene and determined the driver of the Dodge had run from the collision.

The additional driver involved was located unresponsive with significant injuries and pronounced deceased at the scene. Deputies searched the area and located the driver of the Dodge a short distance from the collision scene. Ivan Simmons (pictured), a 23-year-old resident of Perris, showed signs of impairment and was arrested for hit and run causing injury and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The Perris Station Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Preliminary findings revealed that the Toyota was exiting the southbound I-215 freeway at Placentia Avenue when the Dodge, traveling westbound on Placentia Avenue, collided with it in the intersection.

The identity of the deceased will not be released pending notification to the next of kin. In order to process the scene and collect evidence, Placentia Avenue was temporarily closed between the northbound I-215 on-ramp and Harvill Avenue.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call Deputy Jess Kiebach of the Perris Sheriff’s Station at 951-210-1000 or the Riverside Sheriff’s Dispatch at 951-776-1099.
