January 28, 2025 – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report on January 22, 2024, at about 5:50 p.m., deputies at the West Valley Detention San Bernardino County Sheriff logoCenter were conducting hourly safety checks and discovered an unresponsive inmate inside a cell.  Deputies and jail medical staff provided emergency medical care until the Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department arrived and assumed the lifesaving efforts.  The inmate, however, was pronounced deceased.  

The Specialized Investigations Division responded and assumed the investigation.  During the investigation, detectives learned the decedent had been hospitalized in the weeks prior and was suffering from numerous serious medical conditions.  The decedent was transported to the Coroner’s Office where an autopsy will be conducted.  

The decedent was arrested in May 2024 by the Hesperia Sheriff’s Staton for attempted murder and remained in custody until his death.
