Fatal Hit-and-Run Traffic Collision

January 31, 2025 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that the West Traffic Division detectives are seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision that killed a pedestrian.

On January 29, 2025, around 9:00 p.m., a light-colored SUV or crossover vehicle was traveling westbound on Venice Avenue when it struck a male pedestrian, who was crossing Venice Avenue on St. Andrews Place within a marked crosswalk. The vehicle continued driving, dragging the victim under the vehicle to Gramercy Place, where the victim was dislodged from underneath the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle continued driving northbound on Gramercy Place and fled the scene, failing to stop and identify themselves or contact emergency services as required by law.

The Los Angeles Fire Department’s paramedics responded and transported the victim to a local hospital where, despite life saving measures, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

The victim is described only as a male. His name is being withheld pending the notification to next of kin.

Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves. Pedestrians are also reminded to use crosswalks and use caution when on the roadway.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.

Anyone with information about this collision is asked to contact West Traffic Detectives at (213) 473-0234. During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877LAPD-24-7 (877-527-3247). Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477) or go directly to www.lacrimestoppers.org. Lastly, tipsters may also download the “P3 Tips” mobile application and select the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers as their local program.
