Homicide in Spring Valley 

February 20, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that on February 19, 2025, at approximately 1:20 p.m., deputies from the Rancho San Diego Station, along with the San Miguel Fire Department, responded to a report of a battery at a residence in the 500 block of Sacramento Ave. in Spring Valley.

Emergency services arrived on scene, with San Miguel Fire Department arriving first at 1:26 p.m., followed closely by deputies. Upon entering the residence, firefighters discovered a newborn male infant unconscious on the living room floor, suffering from apparent trauma to his head. Tragically, the baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

The biological father, 22-year-old David Ruiz, has been taken into custody and arrested for the murder of his newborn son.

The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances surrounding this tragic homicide are still unclear. Sheriff's Homicide investigators are working to gather more information to determine the facts of the case.
