March 19, 2025 – CAL FIRE officials announce the sowing season is underway at CAL FIRE’s L.A. Moran Reforestation Center in Davis. 

Thousands of seeds from cone-bearing trees undergo lab testing and are first grown in the greenhouse to germinate into seedlings. 

These seedlings will grow throughout the summer before being collected and planted by private landowners between fall and the following spring to support post-fire reforestation projects, helping to restore California's private lands and public forests.
