March 27, 2025 – Imperial County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at approximately 3:30 A.M. (0330 A.M.), Deputies from the Winterhaven substation observed a male subject riding an OHV quad motorcycle on the roadway. The Deputy immediately attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the rider for the violation, at which time the subject failed to yield and fled at a high rate of speed into the desert, towards the All-American Canal.

The subject was eventually stopped and he surrendered to Deputies. The male subject was found to be in possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm, methamphetamine, confirmed stolen mail and hundreds of dollars and recreation day passes that were stolen from the Bureau of Land Management kiosk. Deputies were able to determine how the passes were stolen and who the mail belonged to.

The suspect was subsequently booked into the Imperial County Jail for several felony violations.  The mail, money and passes were all returned to the rightful owners.
