2007 Cold Case Homicide Arrest
April 2, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on May 5, 2007, deputies assigned to the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s
Station responded to a dirt field located in the 23000 block of Sunnymead Boulevard, Moreno Valley, after receiving 911 calls of shots fired in the area. Upon deputies’ arrival, they located a 15-year-old male juvenile, later identified as Clayvaughn Mallet, suffering from gunshot wounds. Mallet was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Investigators assigned to the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. Unfortunately, after several years of investigation, the case went cold without an arrest.
In 2024, Central Homicide Unit investigators tasked with reviewing cold homicide investigations began a review of this murder. This review identified new evidence, and the investigation was reopened. Investigators identified Vincent Gonzales, a now 37-year-old male from Lake Elsinore, as the suspect in the murder. On March 28, 2025, Gonzales was arrested without incident in Lake Elsinore and later booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for Mallet’s murder.
This investigation is currently ongoing, and no further information will be released at this time.
Anyone with information regarding this investigation is encouraged to call Investigator Dan Brown of the Central Homicide Unit at 951-955-2777.
