In-Custody Death
April 3, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Tuesday, April 01, 2025, investigators from the Riverside
Sheriff’s Corrections Central Investigations Unit were notified of an in-custody death. On November 21, 2023, Morris Joseph Chaisson, an 85-year-old male from Cathedral City, was admitted to a local hospital for an existing diagnosed illness.
Deputies from the Robert Presley Detention Center provided security based on Chaisson’s custody status. Chaisson was being treated for his illness until his medical condition diminished. With consent from his family, he was placed on supportive care; however, he ultimately succumbed to his condition. On April 1, 2025, Chaisson was pronounced deceased by attending hospital physicians, and his family was notified of his death.
