Serial Stalking Suspect Released Against Strenuous Objection
April 6, 2025 – Modoc County District Attorney’s Office officials report that on Thursday, April 3, 2025,
Christopher Cavnar was released by Modoc County Judge Wendy Dier against the objection of the Modoc County District Attorney's Office. Cavnar currently has six open cases in Modoc County with charges of three counts of Felony Stalking, seven counts of Disobeying Domestic Relations Court Order, and nineteen counts of Annoying Telephone Calls ranging from May of 2023 to June of 2024.
Mr. Cavnar has been in-custody since July 2024, which included a two-month psychiatric treatment program. Although Cavnar's victim made an impact statement at a January hearing, stating a continued fear for their life, supervised release was granted effective April 4, 2025.
Terms included in the release are issuance of a Criminal Protective Order, compliance with Behavior Health treatment, warrantless search for substances, and a GPS monitor at the discretion of the Modoc County Probation Department. Mr. Cavnar's next court hearing is scheduled for May 12, 2025.
In a statement from District Attorney Salarno, she relayed, “This man has continued to show a blatant disregard for court orders aimed at protecting his victim and our office is tremendously concerned that even the terms put in place with Mr. Canvar's release cannot ensure safety of his current victim or prevent future victims.”
