Edgar Verduzco, 34, faces three concurrent terms of 15 years to life in state prison for murder at sentencing on July 11.

April 12, 2025 – LOS ANGELES, CA – Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced that former LADA officerLos Angeles Police Department officer Edgar Verduzco, 34, pleaded guilty on Friday to three counts of murder for driving under the influence of alcohol and killing a mother, father and their 19-year-old son on the 605 Freeway in 2017.

“As a police officer, Mr. Verduzco was aware that recklessly driving under the influence of alcohol at 150 miles per hour was extremely dangerous to human life and could result in the death of innocent victims, as it tragically did in this case,” District Attorney Hochman said. “Oscar Davila, a beloved student at UC Riverside, was just 19 years old, and his life and his parents’ lives were senselessly taken in an instant. My support and sympathy go out to the Davila family’s loved ones, including Oscar’s four surviving siblings. I thank Deputy District Attorney Kaveh Faturechi of our office’s Justice System Integrity Division for vigorously seeking justice in this case.”

Edgar Verduzco (34) of Santa Ana pleaded guilty on Friday in case BA467321 to three counts of murder, one count of driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury, and one count of driving with a .08 percent blood alcohol content causing injury.

Sentencing is set for July 11 in Department 120 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Verduzco faces three concurrent terms of 15 years to life in state prison for murder and one concurrent term of three years in state prison for driving under the influence of alcohol causing injury.

On Sept. 26, 2017, Verduzco, an off-duty LAPD police officer, drove 150 miles per hour while under the influence of alcohol and struck two vehicles on the 605 Freeway. One of the cars hit a center divider and burst into flames, killing three family members: Maribel Davila, Mario Davila, and their 19-year-old son, Oscar Davila. The driver of the other vehicle, a mother with a baby in a car seat, suffered minor injuries.

The case was prosecuted by LADA’s Justice System Integrity Division and investigated by the California Highway Patrol.
