April 23, 2025 – Monterey County Sheriff's Office officials report deputies have arrested two subjects for conspiracy to commit a felony and being in possession of a stolen tractor. One subject was also found to be a convicted felon in possession of methamphetamine and ammunition.
On April 20th, 2025, Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report of a tractor that had been stolen from the 20 block of Live Oak Road in Royal Oaks in the early morning hours. The owner reported that his tractor was equipped with a tracking device, and he was able to track it to a property on the 1200 block of San Miguel Canyon Road in Royal Oaks.
On April 21st, 2025, Monterey County Sheriff’s Deputies obtained a search warrant for the property. The warrant was served around 5:00 P.M. along the 1200 block of San Miguel Canyon Road in Royal Oaks. Deputies were able to locate the stolen tractor which was in the process of being re-painted. 60-year-old Rene Alvarez Landa and 44-year-old Jose Olegario Gonzalez, both of Royal Oaks, were arrested for possession of a stolen tractor and conspiracy to commit a felony. Rene Alvarez Landa was found to be a convicted felon in possession of ammunition and in possession of methamphetamine for sales.
Rene Alvarez Landa was booked into the Monterey County Jail with bail set at $75,000. Jose Olegario Gonzalez was booked into the Monterey County Jail with bail set at $30,000.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office would like to recognize the owner of the stolen tractor for taking time to protect his property by utilizing a tracking device. We remind the community that new and inexpensive technology exists to protect your property and easily track it when stolen. In this situation, the Monterey County resident and Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were able to work together to recover the stolen property and send the two suspects responsible to jail. We remind criminals to think twice before taking something that does not belong to you.
