April 24, 2025 – Monterey County Sheriff’s Office officials report that deputies arrested a wanted subject who had an outstanding felony no bail warrant for being in violation of his Post Release Community Supervision terms. He was also in possession of controlled substances for sales.

At about 1:30 A.M. on April 23rd, 2025, a deputy contacted a subject in a vehicle along the 10200 block of Merritt Street in Castroville. The deputies recognized the subject and were able to determine that he had multiple outstanding arrest warrants including one for being in violation of his Post Release Community Supervision.

During the arrest, Monterey County Sheriff K9 “Rocket”, a narcotics detection trained Belgian Malinois, alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics within the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed that 45-year-old Rodrigo Roy Marquez of Watsonville, was in possession of about 500 fentanyl pills, about 46 grams of cocaine, about 44 grams of crack cocaine and about 36 grams of heroin. He was also found in possession of indicia indicating that he possessed the controlled substances for the purpose of sales and distribution.

Rodrigo Roy Marquez was booked into Monterey County Jail for charges including possession of narcotics for sale and for his outstanding arrest warrants. He is on a “no bail” hold for his Post Release Community Supervision violation and has an additional $90,000 bail for his additional warrants and fresh arrest violations.

Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto stated, “Our narcotics trained K9s like ‘Rocket’ and his handler are valuable assets to our agency and to the residents of Monterey County. Rocket’s discovery of 500 fentanyl pills, which have now been taken off the streets by our deputies, have certainly saved lives by preventing them from getting into the hands of the public. We are still in the middle of an opioid crisis and our narcotics detection K9s are doing all they can every day to get these dangerous substances off the streets.”
