Officer-Involved Shooting in Southeast Division

April 28, 2025 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that on April 23, 2025, around 2:05 p.m., Southeast Patrol Division uniformed officers were in the area of West 113th Street and Compton Avenue, when they saw a known suspect, wanted for Child Abduction. The suspect, 36-year-old Osmin Briseno, was known to carry firearms. Officers attempted a traffic stop on Briseno’s vehicle, however; he suddenly fled at a high rate of speed. A short vehicle pursuit ensued, terminating on the east 105 Freeway on-ramp at Central Avenue.
Briseno exited his vehicle holding a backpack. The officers repeatedly commanded Briseno not to reach inside the backpack, which he ignored. Briseno led officers on a foot pursuit, running west toward Central Avenue. As he reached Central Avenue, Briseno suddenly stopped, faced a pursuing officer, and reached inside the backpack, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting.
Briseno was struck by gunfire and fell to the pavement, where he was taken into custody. Briseno was transported to a local hospital, where he received treatment for gunshot wounds. Briseno was absentee booked for an unrelated Assault with a Deadly Weapon with a Firearm crime report and other outstanding felony warrants. Briseno’s booking number is 7003741.
No firearms were located at the scene. No officers or community members were injured during this incident.
Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
