May 1, 2025 – Imperial County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at approximately 1:00 P.M. (1300 hours), Deputies responded to the 2400 block of Sea Shore Road located in Salton City, California in reference to a residential burglary that had just occurred.
Upon the deputy’s arrival the victim provided responding Deputies with surveillance footage of the suspect breaking into the residence as well as provided statements relating to the case. The suspect shown on video was positively identified by responding deputies as 40-year-old Richard Sager, a resident of Salton City, California.
Deputies were able to locate Sager and detained him as a suspect in the investigation, which Sager denied any involvement in. Further investigation revealed that Sager was in possession of multiple burglary tools and had a large white generator inside his vehicle, which appeared to have recently been stolen and had freshly cut wires attached to it.
During the Deputies investigation, it was learned that the generator Sager was in possession of, was recently stolen from a local business. After contacting the business owner, it was confirmed that the generator was recently stolen from their local business. The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office Scientific Investigations Unit was called out to document the crime scenes as well as Sager’s vehicle as evidence, for future prosecution of this case.
Richard Sager was arrested and booked into the Imperial County Jail for felony charges of Burglary, Grand Theft, and Vandalism. Sager’s bail was set at $350,000.
This remains an active and ongoing investigation.
