May 8, 2025 – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, deputies at the West San Bernardino County Sheriff logoValley Detention Center found Jabari Betts in his cell suffering from a medical emergency.  Jail medical staff also responded to the cell to evaluate Betts.  The Rancho Cucamonga Fire Department responded to the jail as Betts’ health rapidly declined.  Betts stopped breathing and Fire Department personnel began CPR.  Betts was transported to a hospital where he was admitted for treatment of a pre-existing medical issue.  

On Thursday, May 1, 2025, at about 5:34 a.m., Betts was pronounced deceased at the hospital.  The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division assumed the investigation.  

Betts was arrested on April 24, 2025, at the Victor Valley Global Medical Center after threatening security staff.  Deputies obtained medical clearance from a hospital prior to his booking.
