May 15, 2025 – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials report that they are seeking the public’s help in locating Donte Lamont Brown, wanted for the April 1, 2025, murders of La’Von Hall and her daughter Ma’Laysia Martin in Compton. Deputies responded to a shooting at Central Avenue and Caldwell Street, where both victims were found with fatal gunshot wounds. 

On April 1, 2025, at around 7:05 P.M., La’Von Hall (45) and her daughter Ma’Laysia Martin (22) were fatally shot while driving eastbound on Caldwell Street at Central Avenue in Compton. The known suspect (ex-boyfriend) pulled alongside them in a dark-colored vehicle and opened fire before fleeing southbound.

Investigators say Hall had previously been in a relationship with Brown and had recently reported being threatened and stalked by him. On the night of the incident, Brown allegedly pulled up beside their car and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
