Traffic Pursuit – Imperial Beach 

May 19, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Tuesday, May 13, around 6:00 p.m., deputies from the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for several vehicle code violations. The vehicle failed to stop and led deputies on a slow speed vehicle pursuit before stopping in the 900 block of Seacoast Drive in Imperial Beach.

The driver, later identified as Aaron Meza (33) and his adult male passenger immediately exited the vehicle and refused to follow lawful instructions by deputies. Meza displayed pre-assaultive indicators and took a fighting stance against the deputies. Deputies subsequently used force to detain Meza. 

While deputies were trying to arrest Meza, two nearby residents came out of their home and attempted to interfere after being instructed to stay away. Abigail Persson (24) and Jonathan Diaz (25) were detained after a minor use of force.

Aaron Meza was arrested and booked into the San Diego Central Jail on charges of felony evading and resisting an officer. Abigail Persson was arrested and booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility on charges of resisting arrest by force. Jonathan Diaz was issued a citation for obstructing an officer and released at the scene.
