Homicide Investigation 

May 24, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 11:03 p.m., deputies from the Lake Matthews Sheriff’s Station were dispatched to the 16000 block of Hidden Peak Lane, Lake Matthews, regarding a suspicious person. The caller told dispatch that an unknown male was attempting to break into their residence, and the homeowner was armed with a firearm. The caller remained on the phone with dispatch and relayed information on the suspect’s actions. The suspect eventually forced his way into the residence and was shot by the homeowner. Despite lifesaving measures, the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics. Responding deputies secured the scene, and the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was requested and assumed the investigation.

The homeowner was transported to the Lake Mathews Sheriff’s Station for further investigation. The suspect’s identity is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin. This investigation remains ongoing, and the case will be submitted to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for review at a later time.
