June 13, 2025 –  San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Monday, June 9, 2025, at approximately 11:36 a.m., a deputy assigned to the Victor Valley station observed a large cloud of smoke near El Mirage Road and Vinton Road. He drove toward the smoke and located a sedan fully engulfed in flames. Personnel with the San Bernardino County Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire. After the fire was extinguished, fire personnel located an unidentified male in the front of the vehicle. The person was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Detectives with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, responded and assumed the investigation. During the investigation, Teveen Hemphill was determined to be responsible for the death of the unidentified male victim. 

On Tuesday, June 10, 2025, with the assistance of Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Detail and California Highway Patrol Aviation, Hemphill was located and apprehended in Adelanto. Hemphill was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for PC 187 – Murder.
