Cold Case Homicide Arrest
June 15, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on October 26, 2019, at 12:03 a.m., deputies assigned to the Thermal Sheriff's Station responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call in the 53000 block of Avenida Madero, La Quinta. Upon arrival, deputies located Anthony Carrillo, a 19-year-old male from Cathedral City, suffering from gunshot wounds inside a residence. Carrillo was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Investigators assigned to the Riverside Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. Unfortunately, after several years of investigation, the case went cold without any leads for an arrest.
Investigators from the Central Homicide Unit began a review of this investigation. Through this review, additional evidence and information were identified, and the investigation was re-opened. Investigators identified Jorge Huerta-Arias, a 24-year-old male from Whitewater, as the suspect in this murder. On June 13, 2025, Huerta-Arias was arrested for his involvement in this incident and booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for murder.
