Shooting Investigation in Castroville 

June 28, 2025 – Monterey County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on June 26, 2025, at about 8:56 P.M. (2056 hours), the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting near the Castroville Post Office. Two victims self-transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Deputies responded and located a possible crime scene in the parking lot behind the Castroville Market (10696 Merritt Street).

Update: The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office can confirm one of the two victims succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Victim information will not be provided until next of kin is notified.
