Homicide Investigation
June 28, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on June 26, 2025, at 7:02 a.m., deputies assigned to the Thermal
Sheriff’s Station received information of a possible homicide in the 84000 block of Manila Avenue in the unincorporated area of Indio. Deputies arrived and located a female suffering from traumatic injuries inside a residence. The female was pronounced deceased at the scene and later identified as Alexis Cano, a 24-year-old resident of Indio. The Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was requested and assumed the investigation.
The investigation determined that the incident stemmed from a domestic disturbance. The suspect was identified as Cano’s boyfriend, Mario Morales Jr., a 25-year-old resident of Coachella. On June 27, 2025, Morales was located and arrested without incident and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center for murder.
During the investigation, an additional suspect was identified as Juanna De Morales, a 55-year-old resident of Coachella. On June 26, 2025, she was arrested and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center for accessory to murder.
