Update: Major Vehicle Collision in Poway 

July 23, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that a preliminary investigation has revealed new information san diego county sheriff department logoabout a tragic multi-vehicle collision which killed five people in Poway.

It happened on Friday, July 18, around 12:30 p.m. Deputies from the Poway Sheriff's Station say the driver of a dark-colored Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickup truck was traveling northbound on State Route 67, north of Iron Mountain Drive, when they crossed over into oncoming traffic at a high rate of speed. The Silverado collided with a white Honda Civic traveling southbound on State Route 67. A Toyota Tacoma traveling southbound was unable to stop and collided with the Civic. The force of the collision sparked a small brush fire along the 67, which was quickly put out by firefighters.

The Civic was occupied by one person and the Tacoma was occupied by three people.

The occupants of all three vehicles succumbed to their injuries on scene.

Deputies are still investigating what caused the Silverado to cross into oncoming traffic. They are also reviewing video from a passing car that captured the collision.

The identity of the decedents will be released by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office in accordance with their procedures.
