August 1, 2025 – LONG BEACH, CA – A 34-year-old man was sentenced on Thursday to 358 years to life, essentially life in prison, for the murder of 17-year-old Briana Soto, a high school senior who was fatally shot just steps from her Long Beach home in March 2024. He was also sentenced for the attempted murder of four teenagers in a separate shooting weeks later.
On March 27, a jury found Troy Lamar Fox (34) of Long Beach guilty of first-degree murder and found true the special allegation that he personally used a firearm in the killing in case 24LBCF01129. The jury also convicted him of four counts of attempted murder for the April 9, 2024, shooting, in which he opened fire on a car carrying four minors. The life sentence was imposed today in Department S20 at the Long Beach Courthouse.
“Briana Soto had her whole life ahead of her — she was getting ready for her prom, her 18th birthday, and graduation,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. “Today’s sentence ensures the person who stole her future will never be free to harm another innocent person. While this punishment cannot undo the pain he caused, it is a step toward justice for Briana, her loved ones, and our community.”
The case was investigated by the Long Beach Police Department and prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Robert Song of LADA’s Gang Homicide Division.
“I want to thank our Gang Homicide Division and, in particular, Deputy District Attorney Robert Song for their exceptional work in this case,” District Attorney Hochman continued. “Their tireless efforts demonstrate our office's solemn promise to seek justice for Briana Soto and the many young people whose lives were forever changed by this violence.”
On March 26, 2024, at about 8:30 p.m., Soto was walking home from her job at McDonald’s when she was shot near 11th Street and Lewis Avenue. She died three days later in the hospital. Two weeks later, on April 9, Fox exited a car holding a rifle and opened fire on another vehicle near Pine Avenue and 14th Street. Four minors were inside the targeted vehicle. No one was killed, but the shooting resulted in attempted murder charges.
Fox also has prior convictions for attempted robbery and making criminal threats.
