August 2, 2025 – Yuba County Sheriff’s Department officials report that at approximately 7:10 a.m. on Friday morning, the Yuba Yuba SD drowningCounty Sheriff’s Office dispatch center received a call regarding a possible drowning near the Star Bend boat ramp in Olivehurst. The reporting party indicated that a male subject was attempting to dock his boat when currents caused the vessel to drift away. In an effort to stop it, the man entered the water and was overcome by strong currents.

The victim, a 66-year-old male from Olivehurst, was unfortunately unable to swim to safety. The Yuba County Dive Team was deployed, although the victim was located before their arrival. Despite life-saving measures attempted by medical personnel on scene, the victim passed away.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasizes the importance of safety precautions, including wearing life jackets and avoiding entry into unfamiliar or fast-moving water without appropriate equipment and backup.

Due to privacy concerns, the victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
