August 14, 2025 – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office officials report that Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna will announce the arrest of a suspect in connection with the 2008 murder of Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Juan Escalante.

On August 2nd, at approximately 5:40 a.m., Deputy Escalante, 27, was tragically shot outside his parents’ home in Cypress Park. He was preparing to leave for his shift at Men’s Central Jail when he was confronted by two gang members.

According to witnesses, Deputy Escalante drew his weapon and identified himself as a deputy before the suspects opened fire. Sadly, he succumbed from the wounds he sustained.
