Rescuing Maverick
August 20, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that in June of 2024, an investigation was opened into the report of several underweight horses, discovered in the Cabazon area without water in extreme heat temperatures. On August 14, 2024, Animal Services, along with the Riverside Sheriff’s Rural Crime Team, served a search warrant at the property in Cabazon and seized the horses along with other animals at the location.
Deputy Hubbard, who is assigned to the Sheriff’s Mounted Enforcement Detail, saw something special in one of the horses. He believed that with hard work and lots of love, he could rehabilitate this horse. On September 3, 2024, Deputy Hubbard legally completed the process to adopt the horse he now calls Maverick. After nine months of training and trust-building, Maverick was ready to join the team. Almost one year after his rescue, Maverick is officially a member of the Riverside Sheriff’s Mounted Enforcement Detail, proudly serving the members of our community.
