Not-So-Gifted Getaway 

August 28, 2025 – Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office officials report that late Tuesday night, our deputies were patrolling near S. King Road and Story Road in San Jose when they spotted a stolen white Audi Q7. What started as a car stop turned into the discovery of a high-tech heist on wheels.

Inside the SUV:

• 1,500+ gift cards
• 11 cell phones
• 5 laptops

The SUV was reported stolen out of L.A. County, and now Zhuoqi Lin, 31, of Monterey Park, is facing charges of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, and embezzlement.

Gift card fraud is a common crime. Scammers often steal cards from stores, tamper with them, then wait until they’re bought and activated to drain the funds.

Thanks to the sharp eyes of our Headquarters Patrol deputies, these fraudulent cards won’t make it back to store shelves.
