Man Dies after Being Shot by Neighbor in Newberry Springs; Suspect Taken into Custody 

August 30, 2025 – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at approximately San Bernardino County Sheriff logo7:24 p.m., deputies from the Barstow Station were dispatched to a residence in Newberry Springs for the report of an assault with a deadly weapon.  When deputies arrived, they located Andrew Sperhac outside the residence.  Sperhac sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced deceased.  

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division, Homicide Detail, assumed the investigation. Investigators learned Sperhac and his neighbor, Paul Weinhold, were involved in an argument. During the argument, a shooting occurred.  Weinhold was arrested at the incident location and booked for murder.  He remains in custody at the High Desert Detention Center without bail.
