September 5, 2025 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Southwest Division.
On August 31, 2025, around 1:10 a.m., Southwest Division uniformed officers were conducting extra patrol in a liquor store located on the corner of 9th Avenue and West Jefferson Boulevard. While inside the location, the officers made contact with an individual, later identified as 33-year-old Malik Salaah, who appeared to be concealing a firearm on his person. As the officers attempted to detain Salaah, he removed a firearm from his waistband, resulting in an Officer-Involved Shooting. Salaah fired multiple rounds at the officers while inside the store and as he exited, before fleeing on foot.
A perimeter was established, and several minutes later, he was taken into custody. Salaah had been struck by gunfire and officers immediately rendered aid until the arrival of Los Angeles Fire Department personnel. He was subsequently transported by rescue ambulance to a local hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
Salaah was absentee booked for the attempted murder of a peace officer.
An unloaded 9mm pistol, at slide lock with a seated high-capacity magazine, was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence.
No officers or other community members were injured during this incident.
Force Investigation Division (FID) investigators responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
