Homicide 

September 8, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:50 p.m., a deputy RCSO homicide Leyvafrom the Southwest Sheriff's Station was conducting a routine patrol of Pechanga Parkway and Wolf Valley Road when he noticed an adult male lying unresponsive in the roadway of Pechanga Parkway. The deputy exited his vehicle and began rendering medical aid to the subject, who had traumatic injuries that appeared consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Despite the life-saving measures performed by deputies and medical personnel, the subject succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim was identified as 35-year-old George Fresquez IV, a resident of Temecula.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the victim had been assaulted in the roadway and left unresponsive. Through further investigation, deputies determined that after the assault occurred, the victim was struck by a vehicle traveling south on Pechanga Parkway.

Based on the circumstances, the Riverside Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. Investigators identified 39-year-old Alex Leyva (pictured), a resident of Vista, as the suspect in the assault. Leyva was later located and transported to the Southwest Sheriff's Station, where he was interviewed and ultimately booked into the Cois Byrd Detention Center for murder.

Investigators also identified the vehicle and the driver who struck the victim in the roadway. The driver was transported to the Southwest Sheriff's Station to speak with investigators. The driver was cooperative with the investigation and was later released. Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision.

This case is active and ongoing, and no additional suspects are believed to be involved. This case will be forwarded to the Riverside District Attorney's Office for review and prosecution. No further information will be released at this time.
