Update: Homicide in Ramona
September 11, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at about 2:35 p.m., deputies from the Ramona Sheriff's Substation responded to the 700 block of Eighth Street in Ramona, reference a shooting. Upon their arrival, Deputies discovered an adult individual inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies requested paramedics and they arrived soon after. Unfortunately, the individual succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Felipe Ascencio, a resident of Ramona. The suspect has been identified as 22-year-old, Joel Martin Dukes III, a resident of Ramona. Joel Martin Dukes III has been arrested for murder.
Sheriff's Homicide detectives are conducting an investigation, interviewing witnesses, and gathering more evidence. At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances of the crime are still under investigation.

The San Diego Sheriff's Office extends our sympathies to the Ascencio family and all those affected by this tragic event.
