Officer-Involved Shooting in Mission Division
**The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. September 13, 2025 – Los Angeles , CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that the (LAPD) Force Investigation Division and California Department of Justice (DOJ) are investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in Mission Division.
On September 10, 2025, at approximately 5:18 p.m., Mission Patrol Division uniformed officers responded to a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon suspect at the 8700 block of Orion Avenue. The comments of the call indicated that the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Gustavo Ramirez, was armed with a glass bottle and a firearm.
As an Airship arrived overhead, they directed officers to the area of Orion Avenue and Parthenia Street, where the suspect was observed. Upon contact, the officers attempted to gain Ramirez’s compliance by issuing verbal commands. Ramirez failed to comply, pointed a handgun at the officers and an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) occurred.
The Los Angeles Fire Department responded and transported the Ramirez to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
No officers or community members were injured during this incident.
The handgun used by Ramirez was later determined to be a black plastic replica. The replica handgun was recovered at the scene and booked as evidence.
Force Investigation Division (FID) personnel, along with representatives from the California Department of Justice (DOJ), responded to the scene and assumed investigative responsibility for this incident.
