Deputies Arrest Subject for Negligent Discharge of a Firearm After Family Altercation
September 17, 2025 – Monterey County Sheriff’s Office officials report that deputies have arrested a 19-year-old male for unlawful possession of a firearm and negligent discharge of a firearm after a family altercation in the Las Lomas area.
On Tuesday September 16th, 2025, just after midnight, Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies were called out to the 400 block of Berry Road in Las Lomas for a report of a physical altercation amongst family members. While deputies responded, they were informed that one of the family members had discharged a firearm.
When deputies arrived, they located a male subject that was suffering from facial injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Witnesses on scene reported that a subject, identified as 19-year-old Jose Guadalupe Alvarado, was in possession of and had fired a handgun multiple times into the air during the altercation. Alvarado fled the scene after he was picked up by an unknown person in a vehicle.
Deputies were able to locate Alvarado a short time later along the 400 block of Berry Road. He was positively identified by witnesses as the person that had unlawfully discharged the firearm. Additionally, deputies located evidence that connected Alvarado to the negligent discharge of a firearm. Because Alvarado is only 19 years old, he is prohibited by California law from possessing a handgun.
Jose Guadalupe Alvarado was booked into the Monterey County Jail for violation of PC 246.3(a), Negligent Discharge of a Firearm and PC 29610(a), Minor in Possession of a Handgun. His bail was set at $15,000.
