Assault with a Deadly Weapon in Unincorporated El Cajon 

September 28, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 3:16 a.m., Sheriff's Deputies from the Lakeside Sheriff's Substation were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Graves Ave. in unincorporated El Cajon, regarding a call of a shooting into an apartment unit, in which a 9-year-old male victim sustained a gunshot wound to his leg as he slept. The 9-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital by paramedics and treated by emergency room medical staff. The wound does not appear to be life-threatening, and the victim is in stable condition. The victim is expected to be released from the hospital during the evening of Saturday, September 27, 2025.

Deputies searched the area, making contact with other residents, and determined no one else in the apartment complex had sustained any injuries. Sheriff's Detectives from the Lakeside Sheriff's Substation responded to the scene and initiated a follow-up investigation. At this time, no suspects have been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
