Deputy Involved Collision Could Have Ended Tragically

October 5, 2025 – San Benito County Sheriff's Office officials report that at around 1:00 a.m. on Friday morning, a deputies was stopped on Highway 156 north of Fairview Road, waiting to make a left turn onto a frontage road, when his patrol vehicle was struck from behind at a high rate of speed. The impact pushed his patrol car into oncoming lanes, where it collided head-on with another unsuspecting motorist.

Both the deputy and one of the involved drivers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Our deputy sustained a concussion and other minor injuries. Too often here in San Benito County we see these types of collisions end in tragedy and we are thankful, no one was seriously hurt in this situation.

This incident serves as an important reminder: stay alert, keep your eyes on the road, and avoid distractions. A moment of inattention can have life-changing consequences.

We are grateful to our partners at CHP - Hollister-Gilroy for leading the investigation and we are grateful for the communities continued support of our office and staff. Please keep those involved in your thoughts as they recover.
