Update: Victim in VTA Platform Assault Dies from Injuries 

October 10, 2025 – Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office officials report that a man who was brutally attacked at a Valley SCSO FryshawTransportation Authority (VTA) light rail station in late September has died from his injuries, and the case is now being investigated as a homicide.

The 42-year-old San Jose resident was pronounced dead by medical staff at a local hospital on Wednesday, October 8, shortly after 11:00 p.m. He had been receiving treatment for critical head trauma suffered during a violent assault on Monday, September 29.

Deputies with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Gish VTA Light Rail Station just before midnight on the night of the assault and found the victim unconscious and severely injured.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Investigative Services Division quickly identified and arrested Brandon Fryshaw, 23, in connection with the attack. The case has now been formally referred to the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office for review and prosecution.

Fryshaw is also believed to be responsible for a separate assault involving another victim at the Saint James VTA Light Rail Station in San Jose.
