Serious Injury Collision in Encinitas 

October 10, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station san diego county sheriff department logoare investigating a serious injury collision involving two vehicles and a juvenile pedestrian near the intersection of S. Coast Hwy 101 and W. D Street in Encinitas. 

On Wednesday, October 8, at approximately 5:59 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a crash involving a 2026 Chevy Silverado and a 2022 Toyota Prius. Preliminary investigation indicates the Silverado, driven by Edward De La Torre (64), was traveling northbound on S. Coast Hwy 101 near W. D Street when it collided into the rear-end of the Prius. The Silverado then veered off the roadway and collided into the Gelato 101 building located at 480 S. Coast Hwy 101.

A male juvenile inside the building was struck and trapped beneath the vehicle. First responders were able to free the child, who was conscious and breathing at the scene. He was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

The driver of the Silverado, De La Torre was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the Prius were evaluated by paramedics and did not appear to be injured.

De La Torre was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The investigation is on-going.
