Major-Injury Traffic Collision
October 12, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 9:06 p.m., Thermal Sheriff’s Station deputies responded to a report of a traffic collision at the intersection of Highway 111 and Adams Street in the city of La Quinta. When patrol deputies arrived, they located two juveniles who had been struck by a vehicle while riding their bikes across Highway 111. The vehicle that struck the juveniles fled the scene prior to the deputies’ arrival. Paramedics arrived and transported the juveniles to a local hospital with major injuries. The suspect vehicle was later located in La Quinta, and the driver, identified as Jose Villegasorbe, a 47-year-old resident of Palm Springs, was detained.
The Thermal Sheriff’s Station’s La Quinta Traffic Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed Villegasorbe was intoxicated at the time of the collision with the juveniles and was also involved in a hit-and-run collision in the City of Indian Wells. Additionally, Villegasorbe was on probation for driving under the influence. Villegasorbe was arrested and booked into the John Benoit Detention Center for vehicular manslaughter, driving under the influence, hit-and-run, and violation of probation.
