October 14, 2025 – San Diego Police Department officials report that during proactive patrols in our beach neighborhoods, Northern Division officers on quads stopped an e-motorcycle rider driving recklessly, helping keep our streets safe for everyone.

E-motorcycles may look like e-bikes, but they are not the same. They are capable of highway speeds, require registration, insurance, and a motorcycle license.

Illegal e-motorcycle and e-bike related concerns are one of our most common community complaints. If it matters to you, it matters to us.

Parents, please keep an eye on what your kids are riding. Many of these are being sold online as “bikes,” but are considered unregistered motorcycles under the law.

We support the safe and legal use of bicycles and e-bikes, but if you are riding an illegal e-motorcycle, you might just meet our officers on quads next.
